Can anxiety be prevented?
Anxiety disorders cannot be prevented. The seeds of GAD are sown in early childhood, usually bloom in early adulthood, and if untreated, gradually increase over one’s lifetime, especially during times of stress.
The various measures that can be taken to prevent anxiety are:
- Ask your doctor or pharmacist before taking any over-the-counter medicines or herbal remedies. Many contain chemicals that can increase anxiety symptoms.
- Exercise daily and eat a healthy, balanced diet.
- Stop or reduce your consumption of products that contain caffeine, such as coffee, tea, cola and chocolate.
- Take proper rest and night sleep.
- Start doing yoga and meditation.
- Have less work pressure and other stress.
- Practice deep abdominal breathing by breathing in slowly through the nose, filling the lungs taking it down to your stomach and then slowly breathing out also slowly through your mouth without doing this for too long as this could lead you to feel faint and dizzy from the extra oxygen. Do it for 25-30 minutes daily.
Great progress has been made in the treatment of anxiety disorders. Although treatment cannot cure the disorder, it can greatly relieve the symptoms and improve quality of life.
Together with your attending doctor, a treatment plan should be worked out. The best course of treatment is a combination of medication and psychotherapy.
I've talked with several people who gave me the following natural treatments they have used to cure or avoid anxiety disorder without using medicine.
Exercise
This appears to be a one of the best ways of dealing with a anxiety once it's started. An adrenaline rush usually accompanies an attack and the exercise can bleed it off according to people who use it.
Deep Breathing
One of the best forms of anxiety relief is to simply take deep, slow breaths to prevent hyperventilation. By getting hyperventilation under control you avoid things such as the dizziness and lightheadedness which happens because there is too much oxygen being taken to the brain at one time.
Hypnosis
DianeUlicsni, director of The Hypnosis Center in Lake Oswego, Ore., suffered from chronic anxiety disorders for many years. She finally found relief through hypnosis and is now a board certified hypnotherapist. She says that hypnosis -- recognized by the American Medical Association since 1958 as a form of treatment -- is one approach that is non-drug and can greatly ease or even cure anxiety disorders.
Does Lorazepam or Ativan Cause Weight Gain?
People who are experiencing an anxiety disorder or depression will need a medication to help them feel better. Ativan is one medication that helps a great many people. Several side effects are possible with Lorazepam, but weight gain does not appear to be one of them. |
