Ativan side effects
Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction to lorazepam: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects:
-
hyperactivity, agitation, hostility;
-
confusion, depressed mood, thoughts of suicide or hurting yourself;
-
feeling light-headed, fainting;
-
hallucinations.
The most common side effects associated with lorazepam are sedation (15.9% of patients), dizziness (6.9% of patients), weakness, and unsteadiness. Other side effects include a feeling of depression, loss of orientation, headache, and sleep disturbance.
Like all benzodiazepines, lorazepam can cause physical dependence. Suddenly stopping therapy after a few months of daily therapy may be associated with a feeling of loss of self-worth, agitation, and insomnia. If lorazepam is taken continuously for longer than a few months, stopping therapy suddenly may produce seizures, tremors, muscle cramping, vomiting, and sweating.
Paradoxical reactions, including anxiety, agitation, excitation, hostility, rage, aggression, sleep disturbances/insomnia, hallucinations and sexual arousal may occur. Small decreases in blood pressure and hypotension may occur but are usually not clinically significant, probably being related to the relief of anxiety produced by Ativan (lorazepam).
Does Lorazepam or Ativan Cause Weight Gain?
People who are experiencing an anxiety disorder or depression will need a medication to help them feel better. Ativan is one medication that helps a great many people. Several side effects are possible with Lorazepam, but weight gain does not appear to be one of them. |
